ELECTRIC VEHICLE SERVICING

ELECTRIC VEHICLE SERVICING

Servicing is very vehicle specific – some cars will need more checks than others and some manufacturers say servicing isn't required. However, our EV technicians will be aware of any common faults to look out for or prevent from occurring. Our servicing is designed to keep your car safe and reliable until the next service.

Although electric vehicle servicing has a lot in common with conventional petrol/diesel car servicing, EV servicing is less complicated. EV’s lack all the moving parts in the drive train compared to conventional engines as the EV just has the battery and motors. In addition to this because EV’s use regenerative braking, the brake pads are used far less meaning they will last longer. However, due to the high voltage systems running through the car, the mechanics that work on them must be trained and more safety measures should be in place within the workshop.

All our technicians are at least level 3 trained and working towards their level 4 training if they have not already reached that.

A typical service contains checks that would not be covered on an MOT, for example:

  • Check the 12-volt auxiliary battery so you don't end up stranded.
  • Check the brake fluid moisture content because you won't feel a problem through the pedal due to the electronic braking system.
  • Diagnostic equipment is used to check everything is working as it should, and that there is no corrosion or dirt on the charging connectors, which could lead to a build-up of heat damaging the connectors.
  • Check over the suspension. Due to the condition of the roads, we always look at the suspension.
